Morland Voted D2CCA Southeast Region Player of the Year; Seven SAC Student-Athletes Named All-Region
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) -- Wingate's Sydney Morland has been voted the D2CCA Southeast Region Player of the Year as regional awards and teams were announced today. The redshirt sophomore middle blocker led the Bulldogs to the SAC regular season and tournament titles while leading the nation on with her .449 hitting percentage while compiling a team-best 2.73 kills per set.
The number one team in the region, Wingate had four of the seven first team All-Region honorees, with Morland being joined by Emily Johnson, Gabby Saye and Maya Van Heyst. Johnson is second in the region in hitting percentage, while Saye leads all right-side hitters with her .335 hitting percentage. Van Heyst leads the region with her four triple-doubles.
Lenoir-Rhyne's Kayli Cleaver, Anderson's Ellie Nieporte and Mars Hill's Laela Jimenez were all Second Team All-Region selections.
The SAC led the region with seven All-Region honorees while the Peach Belt had four and Conference Carolinas had three.
