Lenoir-Rhyne’s Griewisch Named Women’s Cross Country Southeast Region Athlete Of The Year
NEW ORLEANS, La. - Lenoir-Rhyne's University Kate Griewisch has been named the United States Track and Field & Cross Country Coaches Association Women's Athlete Of The Year For The Southeast Region. Griewisch is one of 16 athletes and coaches of the year for NCAA Division II Women's Cross Country.
Griewisch, a sophomore from Banner Elk, N.C., won the 2009 NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Championship last Saturday at Wingate, N.C., finishing the 6K course with a time of 22:35. The Avery County graduate was also named the 2009 South Atlantic Conference Runner Of The Year after finishing first at the league race in October and leading Lenoir-Rhyne to back-to-back SAC Titles. In addition, Jason Stewart was named South Atlantic Conference Coach Of The Year for the second straight season.
Griewisch now advances to the NCAA Division II National Championship race, which takes place on Saturday, November 21, in Evansville, Ind. The University of Southern Indiana will serve as the host institution.
An outstanding student as well, Griewisch carries a 3.88 grade
point average while majoring in biology and was named the 2009
South Atlantic Conference Women's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete Of
The Year.
