Lenoir-Rhyne’s Kate Griewisch Places Fourth In Penn Relays

PHILADELPHA, Pa. - Lenoir-Rhyne's Kate Griewisch put together one of the finest running performances in school history Thursday night at the Penn Relays when she finished fourth out of 34 runners in the College Women's 10,000-meter Championship at Franklin Field with a time of 35:10.92

Joana Rivero of Turabo (Puerto Rico) won the event with a 34:13.37 while Griewisch's time established a school record and qualified her for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in the 10K. Griewisch, a sophomore from Banner Elk, N.C., was also the top non-NCAA Division I runner in the race

The track finals take place on May 27-29, 2010, in Charlotte, N.C., on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University.

Griewisch became the first women's cross country runner to earn All-America honors in school history this past fall and won both the 2009 South Atlantic Conference Championship and NCAA Division II Southeast Regional meet.

Griewisch was also named the 2009 South Atlantic Conference Scholar-Athlete Of The Year and the Southeast Regional Women's Athlete Of The Year by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
