Wingate’s Finja Schierl is USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week

New Orleans, La.----Wingate University freshman Finja Schierl (Darmstadt, Germany) is this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II National Athlete of the Week. Schierl is the first Bulldog student-athlete to receive this award for cross country.
Schierl won the D2 National Preview at the Abbey Golf Course and Driving Range in Saint Leo, Florida Saturday. The three-sport standout (XC, track and field and triathlon) posted a school-record 6K time of 21:22.0. Racing in her first official NCAA cross country meet, Schierl helped Wingate finish first in the 10-team field.

On the Horizon
Wingate will participate in the Royals Challenge on Friday. Queens University of Charlotte is hosting the event at McAlpine Creek Park. The women's race begins at 4:30 p.m.
