Wingate Captures 2021 SAC Women's Cross Country Championship
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – With five runners finishing in the top 10, the Wingate University women's cross country team claimed the 2021 South Atlantic Conference Championship, Saturday morning at the McAlpine Creek Park, located in Charlotte, N.C.
Wingate, who sits at No.11 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Poll outdistanced No. 8 Queens and No. 29 Lenoir-Rhyne for the title. Anderson finished fourth overall with a team score of 107 and one top-10 runner.
Wingate's Lara Orrock, who won AstroTurf SAC Runner of the Week on three occasions, covered the 6K course in a time of 20:52.3 to claim SAC Runner of the Year accolades.
Queens' Fatima Alanis earned Freshman of the Year honors after crossing the finish line to earn second place with a time of 21:04.8.
The NCAA Southeast Region Championships, which will be hosted in Saint Leo, Fla. at the Abbey golf Course is slated for Saturday, Nov. 20.
