Thirty-Two SAC Women's Cross Country Student Athletes, Nine Teams Named USTFCCCA All-Academic
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com)- The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced their 2021 NCAA Division II Individual and Team Academic Awards on Thursday, Jan. 27. Nine South Atlantic Conference teams were represented on the women's list, with 32 runners receiving recognition.
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-30 percent of their respective regional championship meet, among other qualifiers.
Overall, there were 357 women from 104 different institutions who were named All-Academic Athletes for their efforts during the 2021 season. Anderson and Lenoir-Rhyne led the way for the SAC with seven honorees each. Queens had six, Wingate had five, while Catawba and Lincoln Memorial had three, and Tusculum rounded out the SAC with one honoree.
Overall, there were 111 different programs who were named All-Academic Teams for their efforts during the 2021 season. The SAC schools accounted for the nine of the women's teams. Anderson, led by Head Coach Kevin Eagle, earned a 3.7 GPA. Carson-Newman, under the leadership of Head Coach Mike Spooner, collected a 3.56 GPA. Jason Bryan's Catawba women earned a 3.42 GPA. Lenoir-Rhyne, under the tutelage of Kevin Paterson, collected a 3.69 GPA. Lincoln Memorial, led by Evan Darm, earned a 3.59 GPA. Christopher England's Newberry women tallied a 3.253 GPA. Queens University of Charlotte, led by Jake Krolick, racked up a 3.82 GPA. Head Coach Cory Pratt's Tusculum Pioneers tallied a 3.49 GPA. Wingate, coached by Pol Domenech, rounded out the SAC schools with a 3.46 GPA.
