Salisbury, N.C. —- The 4th-ranked and top-seeded Catawba College baseball team started postseason play on Friday with a South Atlantic Conference Tournament win over eighth-seeded Newberry at Newman Park in a duel of First Team All-SAC starting pitchers.

SALISBURY, NC – Newberry Baseball opened the South Atlantic Conference Tournament with a tough 8-4 loss to top-seeded and nationally ranked No. 6 Catawba on Thursday afternoon at Newman Park. The Wolves, the 8-seed in the bracket, will now face the loser of Limestone vs. Coker in an elimination game on Saturday.

Hickory, N.C.----The sixth-seeded Wingate University Bulldogs got a Joe Scheffler first-inning grand slam and a Kelan Hoover complete game Friday afternoon, knocking off third-seeded Carson-Newman University 8-1 on day one of the South Atlantic Conference baseball tournament. Wingate improves 26-24 overall, while the Eagles fall to 35-16 on the year. The 'Dogs will play in the winner's bracket game Saturday against the winner of Friday night's Lenoir-Rhyne vs. UVA Wise contest Saturday at 11 a.m. in Hickory.
