ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf SAC Football Players of the Week for games the seventh week of the season. Tusculum quarterback Alex Ogle was tabbed the Offensive Player of the Week, while Lenior-Rhyne defensive back Landon Scott was named the Defensive Player of the Week. Pioneer punter Hunter Cantrell picked up Special Teams Player of the Week.
Ogle, a junior from Hobe Sound, Fla., threw for a pair of touchdowns and ran for another to lift the Pioneers to a 32-31 double overtime win at Newberry on Oct. 14. He connected on 22-of-38 passes to finish the contest with 224 yards and no interceptions. After connecting on a 27-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, he completed a 9-yard touchdown strike in the first overtime. In the second overtime period, Ogle snuck in from the 2-yard line and connected on the two-point conversion pass to give Tusculum its first win at Setzler Field since 2009. The honor marks his first Offensive Player of the Week plaudit this season.
Scott, a sophomore from Moultrie, Ga., posted a pair of interceptions, including a 95-yard pick for a score to fuel the Bears to a 35-7 win over Limestone on Oct. 14. He added three tackles in the contest as the Lenoir-Rhyne defense held the Saints to just 241 yards of total offense. Scott's interception for a score was the longest by a Bear's player in five seasons. The award is his first Defensive Player of the Week selection this season.
Cantrell, senior from Sparta, Tenn., totaled 345 yards, averaged 43.1 yards per punt and put all eight of his boots inside the 20-yard line as Tusculum snapped the defending SAC Champion's 12-game winning streak. He flipped the field position several times in placing six of his eight punts inside the 10-yard line. Newberry's average field position was its own 14-yard line as Cantrell's eight punts inside the 20 is the Tusculum standard. He also broke the school record for punts in a career punts with 224.
