The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf SAC Men's Basketball Players of the Week, Jan. 12
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – No. 24 Newberry guard Demarkus Smith has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played Jan. 5-11, the League announced today.
Smith, senior from Johnston, S.C., averaged 26.0 points per game and connected on 62 percent from the floor to lead the Wolves to a pair of South Atlantic Conference wins last week. Against Catawba on Jan. 7, he notched 25 points as he connected on 7-of-12 from the floor and 11-of-14 from the line to pace the Wolves to a 109-98 win. Smith also ripped down seven rebounds and notched a steal in the victory. Three days later at Mars Hill, Smith put in a career-best 27 points on 64 percent shooting to go along with eight rebounds, two assists and one steal as Newberry picked up a 108-100 overtime win. The honor is his first Player of the Week plaudit this season.
