The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf SAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week, Mar. 30
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Wingate's Maria Garcia has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for matches played March 23-29, the League announced today.
Maria Garcia, a freshman from San Carlos, Cojedes, went undefeated on the week to lead #49 Wingate to a pair of wins, which including a big win at previously unbeaten Queens. Garcia and freshman Oroma Womeodu teamed for a 9-8 win at No. 2 doubles against #28 Queens. Garcia then won the match clincher at No. 6 singles, prevailing 7-6 and 7-5 as Wingate overcame a 4-1 deficit to win 5-4, pushing its SAC winning streak to 34 matches. Garcia and Womeodu won 8-4 against Mount Olive in No. 2 doubles on Sunday. Garcia added a 6-1, 6-1 singles victory in the 6-3 win for the Bulldogs. The honor is her first Player of the Week selection this season.
