The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf SAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week, April 7
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Tusculum's Franziska Funke has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for matches played March 30-April 5, the League announced today.
Funke, a freshman from Bochum, Germany, went a combined 6-0 last week for the Pioneers, including helping pick up two key points in the victory over No. 28 Queens on Saturday. Funke knocked off Marta Gonzalez 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. She also teamed with Amanda Sumner in the top doubles flight and defeated the ninth ranked team in the Southeast Region, Carlotta Nassi and Melissa Laing, by an 8-3 margin. Funke began the week with an 8-0 blanking of Carson-Newman's Jennifer Ott on Monday and earned a victory over LMU's Priscilla Bulandres on Thursday. Funke and Sumner were 8-1 winners over the Eagle duo of Mallory Jackson and Jill Corsato and defeated the Ralsplitter pairing of Elena Vasilyeva and Gemma Goodland, 8-4. The honor is her first Player of the Week selection this season.
