The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf SAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week, Feb. 16

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Wingate guard Xavier Griffin has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played Feb. 9-15, the League announced today.

Griffin, a junior from Marshville, N.C., avarged 19.5 points per game and shot 65 percent from the field to lead the Bulldogs to a 1-1 record last week.  He got his week started with 17 points, a 57 percent stroke from the field, three rebounds, one assist and a steal in Wingate's 75-74 win over Queens on Feb. 11.  He followed that effort with a career-best 22 points on 70 percent shooting vs. Carson-Newman on Feb. 14.  He also added a pair of steals against the Eagles.  The honor marks his first Player of the Week selection this season.

Also nominated for Men's Basketball Player of the Week: Charles Clark (Carson-Newman), Jameel Taylor (Catawba), Donte Samuels (Coker), Curtis McMillion (Lincoln Memorial) and Isaiah Cuthbertson (Mars Hill).
